Mission

LexPons is a French non-profit association (loi 1901) that develops, maintains, and publishes open standards, methods, specifications, software, structured databases, documentation, and tools for structuring, indexing, interoperating, accessing, and reusing legal and regulatory rules.

While registered in France, its mission and contributor community are intentionally international in scope.

Its purpose is to make legal and regulatory texts easier to represent in structured, traceable, and machine-processable forms that can be reused across documentation, compliance, research, and software systems.

Objectives

1. Produce open representations

Develop and maintain structured, machine-readable forms of legal and regulatory texts.

2. Build shared methods and specifications

Publish methods, schemas, and specifications so legal text processing can remain consistent, reviewable, and auditable across projects and implementations.

3. Support interoperability

Enable compatibility and reuse across standards, structured data models, tools, and downstream systems.

4. Maintain open resources

Publish and maintain software, structured databases, documentation, and other reusable resources under durable open licences.

5. Enable trustworthy downstream use

Provide a neutral and reliable basis for compliance systems, legaltech, research, governance tooling, and other software that depends on structured legal and regulatory sources.

Working principles

  • open by default
  • traceable to source
  • deterministic where possible
  • reviewable and auditable
  • neutral in shared public resources
  • collaborative in governance and development
